(Itajaí, 14/02/2018) O Instituto Chico Mendes de Conservação da Biodiversidade é responsável pelo Processo de Avaliação do Estado de Conservação da Fauna Brasileira, cujos resultados subsidiam o Ministério do Meio Ambiente na publicação da Lista Nacional Oficial de Espécies Ameaçadas de Extinção.
No primeiro ciclo de avaliação (2010-2014) foram avaliadas 255 espécies de crustáceos, sendo 145 de água doce e 110 marinhas.

The SBC is against the the extinction and privatization of the Zoobotanic foundation (FZB). This important public organ wich acts on the research, conservation and education. It is also responsible for the endangered list of RS’s flora which was updated in 2014. Moreover, FSB is also responsable for the Zoological Park, Botanic Garden and the Natural Science Museum.

The Chico Mendes Institute for Biodiversity Conservation is the Brazilian Federal Agency responsible for promoting the conservation of Brazilian biodiversity and one of its tasks is the assessment of the risk of extinction of native species.
